    Job Description
    PROGRAM BACKGROUND
    The mission of the Heart of Danville is to promote economic vitality and viability in our downtown and to protect the historic character of our community. Our vision is to create a unique and vibrant downtown that celebrates history and the arts, promotes small businesses, and sponsors local events to build a community where people want to live, work, and enjoy downtown Danville.
     
    JOB SUMMARY
    The Heart of Danville (Kentucky) Main Street Program Executive Director coordinates downtown development activities via a four-point downtown revitalization approach focused on Organization, Promotion, Design and Economic Vitality. This person is an advocate for downtown Danville, building strong and productive working relationships with appropriate businesses, organizations, and public agencies. The Executive Director oversees daily operations for the Heart of Danville and collaborates with the Board of Directors to develop positive strategies for downtown development while also adhering to best practices for running a successful non-profit organization. This is a full-time, high profile position within the community and requires creativity, confidentiality, and professionalism.
     
    CORE JOB DUTIES
    PROGRAMMING
    • Create and manage downtown events that meet one or more of the following objectives: community-building, increased downtown traffic and business, fundraising.
    • Recruit and manage community volunteers to assist in programming.
    • Support business owners: enhance the appreciation of the downtown area, encourage a cooperative downtown environment, assist individual tenants or property owners with physical building improvement projects, and advocate for the downtown area and business community.
    • Develop and promote public awareness programs designed to enhance the appreciation of downtown Danville.
    • Support efforts by the EDP to recruit appropriate businesses to the downtown area to diversify commercial options and enhance the downtown community.
     
    FUNDRAISING
     
    • Develop a balanced funding mix of donor sources and solicitation programs tailored to the needs of the organization that will enable it to attract, retain and motivate donors and organizational partners;
    • Conduct annual membership campaign with a goal of increasing community investment in Heart of Danville programming;
    • Understand local, state, and federal funding opportunities such as grants, loans, and tax incentives. Seek federal and private grants to help diversify funding sources;
    • Identify and recruit corporate sponsors to underwrite the cost of community programs.
    ADMINISTRATION
    • Serve as a visible contact person and full-time advocate for the Heart of Danville Main Street Program. Communicate regularly and effectively with the community regarding the activities and importance of the organization.
    • Communicate effectively with the Board of Directors by developing and distributing financial reports, meeting agendas and minutes, status reports, and other requested materials.
    • Manage all administrative aspects of the Heart of Danville including record keeping, budget development and management, communication plans, and grant/fundraising documentation.
    • Represent the Heart of Danville at local meetings, including City Commission, Fiscal Court, Architectural Heritage Board, and Planning and Zoning in order to advocate for the Heart of Danville, the downtown community, and downtown merchants.
    • Maintain Main Street Program standards by employing best practices, submitting the annual Kentucky Heritage Council packet for recertification, and attending regional and/or state Manager trainings and conferences.
    • Work closely with the nine EDP partners on economic development and communication strategies to benefit the work of all the partner organizations and the EDP as a whole.
     
    QUALIFICATIONS
     
    • Bachelor’s degree and 3+ years of education/experience in at least one of the following areas:
    • Communications, Public Relations, Economic/Economic Development, History, Historic Preservation, or Urban Planning. A master’s degree in relevant field(s) is preferred.
    • Experience with public programming that addresses business development, real estate development, historic preservation needs, or improved downtown design.
    • Organizational management experience is preferred.
    • Strong writing skills as it relates to grants, reports, press releases, and newsletters.
    • Excellent public speaking, interpersonal, organizational, and media relations skills.
    • Experience working with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, etc.) is required.
    • Some travel and/or extended hours (nights and/or weekends) will be required, as necessary for events, trainings, and conferences.
     
    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
    • Some lifting, pulling and pushing may be required. Lifting generally doesn’t exceed 50 pounds.
    • Mobility to local business and merchant locations is required.
     
    SALARY RANGE
    The position has an annual salary of $35,000 to $40,000, commensurate with experience. Benefits include employee health insurance, IRA contribution, and paid vacation.
