As a show of support for local small businesses, the City Commissioners of the City of Danville and Mayor Mike Perros have proclaimed November 26, 2016 as Shop Small Saturday.
The Saturday following Thanksgiving has in recent years become known as Small Business Saturday across the country, with shoppers specifically visiting smaller establishments in their communities, which are also often locally-owned retailers and restaurants.
The City urges all residents of Danville, as well as communities across the country, to support small businesses and merchants on November 26 and throughout the entire year.
"As the proclamation clearly illustrates, small business has been, and continues to be, the backbone of our economy," said Mayor Mike Perros. "The women and men who risk their own capital and dedicate their life to building their business are to be commended and appreciated for the service they provide."
According to the United States Small Business Administration, there are currently 28.8 million small businesses in the United States. They represent 99.7 percent of all businesses with employees in the country and are responsible for sixty three percent of net new jobs created over the past twenty years.
We at Heart of Danville are grateful for the small business owners in our community, and we hope you will join us to "shop small" on November 26!
