  • HOD Statement on Downtown Safety and Appearance Initiatives

  • Discussions at the 2016 Heart of Danville Merchant Breakfast Series have consistently revolved around issues of downtown pedestrian safety and creating a cohesive and appealing downtown streetscape.

In June, HOD staff created an informal survey to determine programming priorities.  The survey was a simple list of solutions under the themes of pedestrian safety and downtown appearance primarily geared to be accomplished locally with the City's support and without major funding.  All the survey options were suggestions provided by merchants as part of small group discussions at the March, April, and June breakfast meetings.

During the month of July and early August, members of the HOD Board visited individual businesses and asked them to name their top 3 project priorities under both downtown safety and appearance.  In July, HOD staff also created a digital version of the survey that was released in their monthly merchant newsletter.  There were around 30 unique businesses that provided input.

For additional input, HOD issued the same survey to their weekly e-news readership and HOD members and close to 150 responses were received.   Similar priorities were identified in both areas by both audiences.

The complete results of the survey, as well as discussions on how to best move forward, have been shared with City of Danville representatives. As we continue to progress on these initiatives we will post updates on our website, social media, and e-news.
