Runners in The Bourbon Chase, a 200-mile race across Kentucky, will once again make their way through Danville on Friday, October 14.
The race, which begins Friday morning at Jim Beam Distillery, is broken up into 36 legs, with 12 towns including Danville serving as exchange points where teams meet to essentially "pass the baton" between runners. The runners are expected to make their way into Danville on Friday evening around 5:30.
Festivities in Danville will begin at 6:00 Friday evening with rock band PaperJam - comprised of Centre College faculty and staff - taking the stage at Weisiger Plaza.
October 14 also happens to be Love Local Friday, and many downtown Danville merchants and restaurants will have extended hours. There will be an opportunity to win Downtown Dollars by visiting participating businesses.
This year's Bourbon Chase theme is "Toga! Toga! Toga!" and everyone is encouraged to dress in laurel wreaths and togas, as an attempt will be made to claim the Guinness World Record for World's Largest Toga Party.
400 teams of runners compete in the chase. Teams are typically made up of 12 runners, with one runner serving as captain. Each person on the team is expected to run 3 legs. Danville will be represented by an "ultra-team," with only 6 runners, all of whom are female.
The race ends in Triangle Park in downtown Lexington, where a Finish Line Celebration will take place Saturday evening.
