April Merchant Breakfast
On Tuesday, April 19, around 20 downtown business owners and members of City government met at the Great American Dollhouse Museum for the Heart of Danville’s second Merchant Breakfast of 2016. The topic of conversation was Promotions and Communications.
Nick Wade, Heart of Danville Project Manager, spoke on the 2016 calendar of events and the changes to events. For more information, visit here. He also spoke on his communication plan for the Heart and what changes have been made and previewed some of the changes to come over the next couple of months.
After Wade’s presentation the group separated into small groups and discussed downtown events. Among the suggestions for ways to enhance downtown shopping were downtown markets and sidewalk sales, better cross promotion and reciprocity from merchant to merchant, and public art.
The group also discussed communication and ways that the Heart can improve. Better media coverage and attention, wayfinding signage and more community partnerships were just some of the ideas presented at the breakfast. One of the topics that hit close to home for Wade was social media and how the Heart can help educate the downtown merchants and the larger community to utilize the tools to benefit Danville.
The next Merchant Breakfast will return to the bimonthly schedule. Jerry Houck, owner of Cue, will be hosting the merchants on June 21 at his new restaurant Nellie Burton’s Steakhouse and Bar located at 234 S 4th St.
